Allen’s is your typical Irish pub, but gone high-end. The Danforth eatery has been operating for the past fifteen years, and in that time, it has also been constantly collecting awards. Be it Best Patio or Best Burger, chances are that if Allen’s serves it, it’s probably won something. I love the place and think they deserve every plaque, trophy, and medal they've ever received.
It has to be said that the pub has an incredible beer list, but as a foodie, it’s what’s on my plate that I care most about. Their black bean soup is a personal favourite, and in the summer, they fire up the barbecue for some particularly delicious dishes. To be specific, they’re passionate about the cuts of meat served. Each day, the menu displays where the meat was sourced and which local butcher provided the cut, making for consistently fresh, local meat with a savoury, tender taste. One downside is the slow service, but the wait is worth it because the meals are excellent.
Allen’s tasty offerings can be enjoyed inside or out, but if you can get a spot on the patio, go for it. The vines in tandem with the relaxed, traditional pub atmosphere makes for a great, low-key evening out. Bring along some friends and enjoy the Danforth favourite.
