Mideastro

Mideastro is one of Yorkville's more popular restaurants. I can tell people like it because a) it's always busy and b) as I learned from first hand experience, you always need a reservation. A couple weeks ago, I headed out with a big group of friends and decided to give the Mediterranean/Middle Eastern fusion food a shot.

When you enter the restaurant, you immediately know this is a place for more mature patrons. The soft lighting, dark woods and leathers that decorate the space, classy booth seating, and the more demure atmosphere all alerted us to the fact that this place is mature, and definitely not party central like some of the spots on Queen West feel like. Overall, Mideastro is a comfortable, nice place to be, just make sure that, like I was, you aren't seated by the loud, bright kitchen. This is why reservations are always suggested.

However, despite the less than desirable seating, we were ready to try out some interesting looking fusion fare. To my pleasure, the dishes were quite good. The portions were very large so that we all got to share and try a good half of the menu. The appetizers were okay, but the main courses were the highlight. Rich, heavy dishes like Homemade Lobster Chestnut Gnocchi and Lamb and Beef Grilled Kufta are aplomb on the menu. On the one hand, I thought the prices were fair for the amount of food and the quality, but on the other, it was very heavy, which isn't typically my preference.

The servers were also very nice, but I wouldn't necessarily run back to Mideastro any time soon. The wait for the food was just too long. I would, however, give it a second shot to see if I just happened to go on an off night.
